Our programmes are designed for students in school years 9 to 13 and tailored to meet the specific needs of our partner schools. Through these, we aim to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and increase understanding of the crucial role of vaccines.

Long-term Interactive Programmes’ Components

School Workshops:

We visit schools to hold workshops on various topics, including biochemical engineering, vaccine manufacturing, and career opportunities.

Institution Visits:

School groups are invited to visit UCL’s Department of Biochemical Engineering and other VaxHub member institutions to attend practical laboratory workshops and tours.

Mini Research Projects:

We organise mini research projects for school groups to foster hands-on learning and emphasise the importance of teamworking.

Career Focus Sessions:

We discuss the role of biochemical engineering in vaccine development, emphasising its interdisciplinary nature and career opportunities.

Teacher Collaboration:

We work with teachers to develop interactive activities that enhance students’ understanding of vaccines and inspire interest in biochemical engineering.

Ongoing Resources:

We provide resources for developing future interactions and teaching materials.

Participation at Festival and Events:

We participate in science festivals and events to increase public awareness of vaccines and engage with as many age groups as possible.

Some highlights of our initiatives

Collaborative Training for Teachers: In 2022

VaxHub launched its first collaborative Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for GCSE teachers, marking the beginning of our partnership with schools. Since then, we offer CPD trainings yearly to expand our reach and school network.

Focus on Inclusivity

Given VaxHub’s original mission to develop accessible vaccines for low- and middle-income countries, our UK-based engagement activities target disadvantaged and minority groups. We partner with schools that represent a diverse student body, including Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds.
